The incredible @arleckiss will be stepping behind the decks for opening set in place of our wonderful @djrescuedog who unfortunately is no longer able to join us for the first edition of Disco Forever next Saturday 1st August. Arle started out as a community radio presenter, broadcasting genres from all around the world to showcase unique sounds from all different cultures. They DJ for a variety of events across Boorloo, showcasing micro-genres that span from Industrial, New Age, and more. Their favourite era of disco would have to be any sounds that came out of Europe and the Middle East from the early 1970s to early 1980s. Mixing African American influences with European club rhythms and traditional instrumentation sounds like nothing else. For them, that sound is about showing respect to a genre while adding an unexpected twist. They also love the sounds of post-disco merging into garage house and proto-house, such as releases from Sleeping Bag Records. One notable release is ‘Wax the Van’ by Lola, written by the late and great Arthur Russell; a post-disco and proto-house essential. Another one of their favourite releases is from 1999, a disco influenced deep house track from Merle named ‘Fannie Likes 2 Dance’, a track with Prince-like vocals dedicated to Merle’s partner at the time with classic disco strings in the background.
