High Note Turns 3 feat. Gilles Peterson (UK) + MC Rob Galliano

About

It’s hard to believe we’re already three turns around the sun. Our mission has always been simple: supply the room and let the community do the rest. So rather than making this about us, our 3rd birthday is really a thank you to everyone who’s been part of the journey so far. To celebrate, we’re opening up the whole precinct - High Note Bar, the Studio, the Event Space, and the Northcote Theatre - bringing together a massive crew of artists and collectives who have shaped our story from the start, along with special guests who share our same ethos. NORTHCOTE THEATRE Headlining the theatre, we’re thrilled to welcome honorary Melburnian Gilles Peterson alongside long-time collaborator MC Rob Galliano for an exclusive 6-hour start-to-finish set. Broadcaster, crate-digger, and Brownswood Recordings head, Gilles has spent over four decades bridging underground jazz, club culture, and global sounds. A devoted champion of Naarm who celebrated our local scene with the landmark Sunny Side Up compilation, he returns to transform the theatre into a single, massive club room. ACROSS THE PRECINCT Throughout the day and night, we’re handing room control over to the institutions that have been part of our journey. In the Event Space, Music In Exile presents live sets and selections from Alcides Neto, DJ Matab, Selena, Sisterdeep, and Rah b2b Langai. Over in the Studio, Skylab Radio holds down the decks with Marley Swain, Chuleo FM, Northside Records DJs, High Note Soundsystem, Karani b2b $ookylala, and Raphael Wall b2b Bonnita. FOOD & DRINK Day-to-night food and wine pop-up courtesy of the team at Bar Merenda, with drink support from Monkey Shoulder. Start early in the bar, wander between rooms, and raise a glass with us to three years on the block.
