TRANSMISSION: Chicago-New York Disco & House Roots presented by Casual resident dj: CASAMUSICA. House music was born from the direct artistic and cultural bridge between Chicago and New York City, evolving out of the ashes of 1970s disco and underground club culture. The Roots of the Sound: New York pioneered the blueprint for modern club culture in the 1970s through iconic venues like The Loft (run by David Mancuso) and The Paradise Garage (run by Larry Levan), alongside Studio 54. DJs mixed extended soul, funk, European synth-pop, and disco tracks on high-end sound systems to create safe, deeply immersive spaces for Black, Latino, and queer dancers. Frankie Knuckles: Widely known as the "Godfather of House," Knuckles actually shaped his DJ craft in New York before moving West. Frankie Knuckles became the resident DJ at a newly opened private club in Chicago called The Warehouse. He brought New York's sophisticated disco-edit style and mixed it with drum machines, raw reel-to-reel edits, and hypnotic gospel-infused soul.
