Magnetic Soul Halloween Special with Makoto

About

MAGNETIC SOUL HALLOWEEN SPECIAL WITH MAKOTO Magnetic Soul returns to our home at Oma for a big night of Drum and Bass, and we are pleased to welcome back MAKOTO, one of our favorite guests, for his third Hong Kong appearance with us over the years. ABOUT MAKOTO Makoto Shimizu, known simply as Makoto, is one of the most established names in soulful drum & bass. Originally from Tokyo and now based in London, his sound blends soulful musicality with the energy of UK bass culture. Inspired by artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, he began producing after discovering drum & bass through Gilles Peterson’s radio shows. His breakthrough came in 1999 when LTJ Bukem signed him to Good Looking Records, launching a career defined by his signature fusion of fast breaks and soul. He has since released extensively, including three albums on Hospital Records, alongside releases on UKF, DnB Allstars, Liquicity and his own imprint Human Elements. His collaboration with MC Conrad on “Golden Girl” remains a genre classic. Continuing to evolve, Makoto’s music blends soul, disco and funk influences into modern drum & bass, while he maintains a global touring schedule across Europe, the Americas and Asia. This edition also brings several debuts. Barbosa plays his first ever public DJ set, and Illi and Michael Lim step up for a B2B set for their first Magnetic Soul appearance together, ahead of Michael's move to Singapore. We are also welcoming visual artist Edison Juai, who joins our VJ roster. We look forward to a Halloween of vampires, witches, devils, and cats, zombie nurses, and masked strangers filling the floor and dancing to Drum and Bass late into the night.
